OUA 2011 All-Stars - Women

The OUA all-stars were announced Thursday morning for women's soccer, both East and West.

The Queen's Gaels fared excellently with third-year midfielder Riley Filion earning the OUA East MVP award and a first team all-star naming. Filion scored six goals this season for the Gaels and is a two-time CIS Championship All-Star, member of the Canadian women's summer universiade team, and scored the winning goal in the CIS Championship game last season.

Jessie DeBoer from BC was named the OUA East Rookie of the Year. In her first season with the Gaels, the defender appeared in every game, scoring five goals along the way. She was also named as a second-team all-star.

Other Gaels named to the OUA East first all-star team include Brienna Shaw and Jacqueline Tessier. This is Shaw's fourth first-team all-star appearance, and she captained Team Canada at the summer universiade. Tessier led the OUA with 12 goals and received her second first-team all-star appearance.

Gaels defender Melissa Jung and striker Kelli Chamberlain join DeBoer with second-team all-star honours. The RMC Paladins also had a player named to the second all-star team, their centre midfielder, Michelle Hamilton.

Men's honours are expected to be named later today.
