Kingston FC status moving forward...

As mentioned a few weeks ago, Kingston FC withdrew from the CSL this season. The story that came out over the next few days was that the team had applied to the Ontario Soccer Association in an attempt to enter League1 Ontario as a second eastern Ontario team after the Kingston Clippers.

Today, the organization announced that they are working toward a move into the OSA structure as an OSA Recognized Non-Club Academy (ORNCA).

Kingston FC not returning to the CSL for the 2015 season

It was quietly announced in a Canadian Soccer League press release this weekend that Kingston FC would not be returning to the CSL for the 2015 season.

Weekend Roundup - June 7/8

This past weekend, the League1 Ontario Cataraqui Clippers held their home opener down at the St. Lawrence College field on Saturday with a 5pm kickoff. The Clippers' OYSL team continued their fight in the U17 division. Kingston FC played a pair of games out of town split between Milton and North York. And finally, the Kingston United women play up in Ottawa this evening.

CSL: Kingston FC 2014 final schedule

On Tuesday, the final version of the CSL's 2014 schedule was released.

There have been several changes for Kingston FC since the original release, with most of the game weekends being the same, but the first division team's game times have been adjusted to kick off at 6:45pm on Saturdays and 1:00pm on Sundays. The second division schedule has been brought in line with the first division schedule, with their reserve games kicking off at 3:15pm on Sundays (after the first team game) and at 4:30pm on Saturdays (before the first team game).

Both divisions now begin play on May 24 and wrap up on October 5.

League1 Ontario announced, Cataraqui Clippers playing

This afternoon, the Ontario Soccer Association officially unveiled their League1 Ontario (L1O) competition beginning this summer, and here in Kingston, it was revealed that the Cataraqui Clippers were one of the ten inaugural teams taking part, playing as the Kingston Cataraqui Clippers.

The official announcement and presentation took place this afternoon at the OSA's Soccer Centre in Vaughan, Ontario and was attended by the Cataraqui Clippers' technical director Chris Eveleigh and former Kingston FC player, Jason Massie.

CSL: Kingston FC 2014 schedule released

The 2014 CSL schedule was quietly released this weekend, shortly in advance of the OSA's League 1 Ontario announcement this Tuesday (April 8, at 2pm ET).

The first division is scheduled to begin on May 24 and wrap up on October 5, while the second division kicks off May 7 and finishes on September 7.

Please note that a revised schedule has since been released.

Canadian Soccer League website vanished? Sanctioning?

At some point on Monday morning, the Canadian Soccer League's website disappeared from the internet, domain name and all.

There were some technical glitches with the site last week as their news feed disappeared a couple of times and their database of news, press releases, and statistics vanished, but nothing as surprising as the domain name no longer existing.

CSL: Kingston FC 2014 roster

This past week, Kingston FC announced their roster for the upcoming 2014 CSL season.

The announcement was held in the Queen's Alumni Lounge at the ARC and was presented by main owner Lorne Abugov and three returning players, Joe Zupo (ex-Queen's University captain), Guillaume Surot (CSL 2013 MVP and Golden Boot winner), and Ryan McCurdy (Kingston FC veteran since year one).

CSL: Kingston FC - 2014 Kickoff

Yesterday afternoon, Kingston FC held their 2014 Launch Press Conference at the Queen's ARC in the Alumni Lounge.

The team made several announcements about their upcoming 2014 season, some new ownership interests, a new partnership with Queen's University, and some player news.

They also unveiled their new logo (seen here), a new update done by a Toronto based graphic designer, Jennifer Coghill.

During their discussions, they talked about their objectives for 2014 (and beyond), and what the new governance situation with the Canadian Soccer League (CSL) means for them moving forward.

Kingston FC schedule released, first game this Sunday!

Kingston FC held a press conference at Richardson Stadium on the Queen's West Campus this afternoon where they announced their schedule for the season in the Canadian Soccer League. Co-owner and president, Joe Scanlon stated that the team was aiming for a top three finish, while fellow co-owner and chairman Lorne Abugov corrected him, suggesting that they were aiming for a top-two spot.

Kingston FC opens their season this Sunday, May 5 with a home game against Brampton City United, with the first division team kicking off at 1pm and the reserve game kicking off at 3:15pm at the West Campus turf field.

CSL sanctioned for 2013, Kingston FC season back on track

Last night, Apr 23, the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada (SDRCC) officially released a pair of decisions that applied to the conflict between the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) and the Canadian Soccer League (CSL).

The very short summary of the decision is that the de-sanctioning of the CSL by the CSA for 2013 was delayed until February 13, 2014 rather than going into effect this year. As such, the CSL will be allowed to operate with CSA sanctioning for the 2013 season.

A change to the GKSSA friendlies vs Kingston FC

Late last week, soon before the scheduled friendlies between GKSSA teams and Kingston FC's squad, a notification was sent to most of the clubs in the Kingston area from SOSA (the local district), forwarding along an email from Bruce Henderson at the OSA, suggesting that moving forward with these games was not recommended.

This coming Saturday, the GKSSA's A Division winning team, Soccer Plus FC, will be facing off again a squad of players from Kingston FC's lineup in a pre-season exhibition game, the first on Kingston FC's schedule.

A second game will follow next Friday against Portuguese Benfica, the 2012 Carmine Lanzo, Sr Cup and playoff winners.

CSL v CSA - Sport Arbitration?

Over the last few weeks, Support Local Soccer has talked about the ongoing issues between the CSL, CSA, and OSA, discussing how this could affect local athletes involved with the Kingston FC team.

The latest news from the Canadian Soccer News is that the CSA has re-affirmed their decision to sever ties with the CSL, leaving them unsanctioned.

The report also states that the CSL has plans to go to the Sport Dispute Resolution of Canada to mediate the issue.

Kingston FC tryouts - UPDATE

Kingston FC had their first evening of tryouts last night, and despite the blustery weather, a number of prospects showed up.

Unfortunately, due to a recent by-law issue, the West Campus turf field was closed and the lights cannot be used until they comply with local by-laws. As such, the tryouts moved down to Tindall Field on the main Queen's Campus.

Today, the CSL announced that they are preparing for the new season, despite the de-sanctioning announcement from the CSA in February.

Along with this announcement, they confirmed that the TFC Academy team had withdrawn from the league, as this would be due to issues discussed previously.

The season is expected to start late April, the league's earliest start, with Kingston FC's home opener taking place on May 5th at the Queen's West Campus field.

CSL issues: Effects on Kingston FC?

With the news this week that the CSA was not sanctioning the CSL for the 2013 season, there has been a big scramble between the CSA, CSL, and their member teams as everything tries to figure out the plans for the upcoming season.

Earlier this year on January 31st, CBC Sports released a report that the CSA had cut ties but the CSA made nothing public about the situation. On February 3, the CSL put out a press release that essentially accused the CBC story of lying. Just over a month later, the CSL confirmed the de-sanctioning in another press release on March 5th.

So... what's the deal? What does this mean to the teams? What does this mean to Kingston FC and its local players?

Weekend Roundup - Sept 8/9

The second weekend of September saw the OUA seasons continue, the OCAA season kick off, and a return home for local CSL team Kingston FC. The majority of the games took place out of town, in the Greater Toronto Area in fact, while Kingston FC had the weekend at home all to themselves.

In the OUA, RMC was playing the University of Toronto on Saturday and Ryerson Sunday, while Queen's played the same teams, but in the opposite order. St. Lawrence kicked off their outdoor season with a visit to the Centennial Colts in Scarborough on Sunday afternoon, and Kingston FC faced off against the Serbian White Eagles from Toronto on Saturday evening.

CSL: Kingston FC 1, York Region Shooters 1

After last week's first full and proper CSL game in Kingston (a 4-2 loss against the TFC Academy, covered in full on Waking The Red and the Kingston Whig-Standard), Kingston FC was prepared to look for their first win of the young CSL 2012 season against the York Region Shooters.

The CSL Division II game was played immediately beforehand and despite fighting back to a 3-2 scoreline late in the game, the Kingston FC Reserves dropped the game by a 4-2 result, a definite step up on last week's 10-0 scoreline!

The game kicked off with Kingston FC wearing blue and the York Region Shooters dressed in white, and Kingston attacking the north end of the pitch.

Weekend roundup - Sept 24/25

There was a lot of soccer being played in the Kingston area this weekend, starting off with the St. Lawrence College Vikings women's soccer team starting their season off against Loyalist College from Belleville on the Thursday evening. St. Lawrence and Loyalist College played to a hard fought 1-1 draw to begin the OCAA season.
