GKSSA teams playing friendlies against Kingston FC

This coming Saturday, the GKSSA's A Division winning team, Soccer Plus FC, will be facing off again a squad of players from Kingston FC's lineup in a pre-season exhibition game, the first on Kingston FC's schedule.

A second game will follow next Friday against Portuguese Benfica, the 2012 Carmine Lanzo, Sr Cup and playoff winners.

The first game will kick off at 3pm on Saturday, March 30 at the Queen's West Campus turf field, Kingston FC's home field for this summer. Soccer Plus, the 2012 GKSSA A Division champions, playoff finalists, and one of the top defensive teams in the league, will face a slightly weakened Kingston FC squad. Kingston FC's coach Colm Muldoon stated that his team would not be at full strength for the first few games because some players will still be at university.

The following Friday, April 5th, Portuguese Benfica, the 2012 Carmine Lanzo, Sr Cup winners will face a similar Kingston FC squad, again at the West Campus turf field, this time kicking off at 5:30pm. One of Benfica's 2012 players, Jeff Borges, joined the Kingston FC squad through the open tryouts held last week at Tindall Field on the main Queen's campus.

Muldoon said that he was "especially pleased with the games against Kingston area clubs and the Greater Kingston Senior Soccer Association. Their support means the soccer community in Kingston and the Kingston area is fully behind us. That means a great deal to me and the members our team.”

Besides Jeff Borges, two other GKSSA alumni are on the Kingston FC squad, ex-Queen's Gaels captain Jordan Brooks (AS Roma/Iron Duke FC) and Matthew Mountford (Azores Eagles).

Entry to the game will cost $2 and that will entered people into a draw to win seasons tickets for Kingston FC's 2013 season.

Soccer Plus FC is sponsored by Soccer Plus International in Kingston, located at 2780 Princess Street, near Bayridge Drive. Portuguese Benfica is sponsored by the Portuguese Cultural Centre located at 959 Division Street, at the corner of John Counter Boulevard.
